It appears the altimeter is actually working because when I calibrate it or the barometer manually I can watch it register and update the altitude dynamically. I've factory reset, soaked it for a half hour in warm soapy water, clean it regularly and meticulously, etc. Unit is around one year old.
I then did a classic test where you manually calibrate the altimeter to a value off the actual one, start an activity and hopefully auto calibration will adjust the altimeter. Coros worked well. Fenix 7 after 3:30 hours of the watch sitting in the window, with the GPS altimeter showing the correct altitude, never adjusted the barometric altimeter.
Before the 935 I have a Fenix 3 HR, before that a Garmin 920XT and others before. I really want to like the the 935, I love the size and weight of it, the battery life, the fit, the operating system and I like the idea of what its meant to do - I say idea of what its meant to do because I find it horribly unreliable.
The GPS was okay if I never stopped, but when climbing a 14er, of course one stops regularly. The more I stopped, the worse it performed when compared to my Garmin 66i. The altimeter was useless. I could set it for my current altitude, and within a few hundred feet of altitude gain it would be way off. I was wondering if the Fenix 6 was any

Altimeter way off. Finnatical over 4 years ago. I used to have the Forerunner 235 and the elevation on my run stats were always spot on. I recently got the 5Plus and running at the beach bike path in Southern California says my elevation start was at 180ft! It should be about 10ft. And during my 8 mile run it was all over the place going from
But in 1 year, I was completely disillusioned from the Fenix 6X Sapphire not able to measure for me the altitude gain. I wasted a lot of time with Garmin, I called, I wrote to support and beta testing team, I had 2 replacements without any explanation, but the problem is still not resolved on the 3 rd device and several Firmware.
