Produces nice shots when you nail the focus. The Canon ef-s 60 2.8 might be a better combo macro/portrait lens for you. Also, I've just ordered the Sigma 17-50 2.8 after doing a ton of research and trying out a used copy at a local shop. I think for me it is a better lens than the Canon 17-55 mentioned in another reply. Just my opinion. The Canon EF-S 24mm pancake is specifically designed to work with Canon APS-C cameras (cropped frame) and boasts an extraordinarily slim profile of less than one inch. The minimum focal distance

The point being that 1/25s is so close to, as you say, the limits of the body to hold even close to still that it doesn't feel as necessary as for a telephoto lens. For photography, at least, there's not really a gain if you already have the pancake on APS-C. And if you have the adapter the pancake would be half the price of this lens.

The Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lens boasts an in-built STM motor for smooth and silent auto focus in live view and movie modes. The take me anywhere compact lens Ultra-compact, portable and just 22.8mm, the Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lens is the perfect pair for your EOS DSLR so you can zoom in on everyday life. Since a 24mm on a 1.6X APS-C crop body has the same field of view as a 40mm lens on FF, it's the same hood that fits the other Canon pancake lens, the EF 40mm f/2.8 STM. The ES-52 lens hood: For how this type of design works, please see: How does lens-hoods for pancake lenses work? (Canon EF 40mm with ES-52)
Pros Quite sharp. Very compact. Classic wide-angle field of view. Silent STM focus motor. Affordable. Cons Lacks image stabilization. Disappointing manual focus experience. Noticeable vignette at
